Perinatal Mortality in Shorthorn Cattle in Northern Queensland
نویسنده
چکیده
Observations on perinatal mortality in Beef Shorthorn cattle were made on a property at a latitude of 19” 50’ S in north-western Queensland during March 1964. There was a perinatal mortality of 16%, due mainly to accidents at parturition and to excessively high body temperatures associated with the hot environment. It is suggested that neonatal hyperexia might be a major source of reproductive wastage in this region in herds which usually calve during the hotter months of December and January.

متن کاملThe mtDNA haplogroup P of modern Asian cattle: A genetic legacy of Asian aurochs?
BACKGROUND Aurochs (Bos primigenius) were distributed throughout large parts of Eurasia and Northern Africa during the late Pleistocene and the early Holocene, and all modern cattle are derived from the aurochs. Although the mtDNA haplogroups of most modern cattle belong to haplogroups T and I, several additional haplogroups (P, Q, R, C and E) have been identified in modern cattle and aurochs. ...
متن کاملSerological evidence of Coxiella burnetii infection in beef cattle in Queensland.
BACKGROUND Queensland has the highest incidence of Q fever in Australia. The aim of this study was to undertake a cross-sectional seroprevalence survey of Coxiella burnetii, the causative agent of Q fever, in beef cattle in Queensland. METHODS Serum samples were tested by ELISA for both phase II and phase I antigens of the organism using an Australian isolate. Blood samples were collected at ...
متن کاملReducing Methane Emissions from Cattle Production in Central Queensland
Beef cattle contribute about 7% of national greenhouse gas emissions through the release of methane into the atmosphere. Cattle in northern Australia produce more methane per unit of beef produced because of tropical (C4) grasses and slower average growth rates. In this paper the level of emissions from different herds and some strategies to reduce emissions are modelled. The results indicate t...
متن کاملThe diversity of bovine MHC class II DRB3 genes in Japanese Black, Japanese Shorthorn, Jersey and Holstein cattle in Japan.
We sequenced exon 2 of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II DRB3 gene from 471 individuals in four different Japanese populations of cattle (201 Japanese Black, 101 Holstein, 100 Japanese Shorthorn, and 69 Jersey cattle) using a new method for sequence-based typing (SBT). We identified the 34 previously reported alleles and four novel alleles. These alleles were 80.0-100.0% ident...
